TOKYO, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were essentially flat Thursday morning as buying prompted by Wall Street's overnight advance was offset by selling to secure profits.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 6.41 points, or 0.03 percent, from Wednesday to 20,633.07.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, shed 1.14 points, or 0.07 percent, to 1,683.42.
Food, and electric power and gas-related issues comprised those that advanced the most by the morning break, while insurance and land transportation issues led those that notably declined.
