LAGOS, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria has no immediate plan to bring back home former petroleum minister Deziani Allison-Madueke, to face trial, Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami said Wednesday.

Allison-Madueke, who is being investigated in Britain, had earlier urged the Nigerian government to bring her back to the country to face corruption charges against her.

Malami told reporters in Abuja, the nation's capital, that bringing Allison-Madueke back would jeopardize the investigation being carried on her in Britain.

He said steps have been taken by the British authorities on corrupt practices involving Nigerians.

"If Nigeria feels strongly that there is need to bring Deziani Allison-Madueke here to face charges of corruption, the government will not hesitate to do that," the minister added.

He said the former minister could request to be brought home for trial but that she should face her trial in Britain as the gravity of the offence she committed abroad was higher.

The minister told reporters that the country was doing a lot in litigation and fight against corruption within and outside the country.

He said there had been some understanding between Nigeria and other countries, especially Britain on recovery of stolen funds.

Allison-Madueke is facing charges of money laundering and acquisition of properties in Britain. Enditem
