DUBAI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Dubai authorities said it discussed on Wednesday with Uber, a U.S.-based car hire company, on the possibility for the company to introduce budget mobility products to the city.

The new products will be allowed in the Dubai market in support of the city's Vision 2021, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said in an e-mailed statement.

Budget mobility shall meet the needs of customers seeking affordable mobility solutions, enhance mass and shared transport, reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and deliver passenger transport services through electronic communication channels and the smart app, it added.

"This initiative stems from RTA's keenness to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world," said Mattar Al-Tayer, director-general and chairman of government-controlled RTA, after his meeting with Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty, vice president and chief executive officer of Uber in Europe, Middle East and North Africa.

"The smart mobility is one of the key pillars of smart cities, and RTA considers Uber a strategic partner in delivering smart transit services in Dubai," he added.
