Vietnam's fertilizer import turnovers up 17.8 percent in January-September

HANOI, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam spent 964 million U.S. dollars importing over 3.6 million tons of fertilizers between January and September, posting respective year-on-year increases of 21 percent and 17.8 percent.

In the nine-month period, Vietnam imported 338,000 tons of urea worth 85 million U.S. dollars, down 21.9 percent in volume and down 14.8 percent in value, and 821,000 tons of Ammonium Sulfate worth 97 million U.S. dollars, seeing respective rises of 11 percent and 8.8 percent, the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said on Wednesday.

Vietnam imported 4.2 million tons of fertilizers, mostly urea, Ammonium Sulfate, Potassium, Diammonium Phosphate and Nitrogen-Phosphorous-Potassium fertilizers, totaling over 1.1 billion U.S. dollars last year.

Its key import markets included China, Russia, Indonesia, Canada and Japan, said the ministry.
