ISLAMABAD, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's military said late Tuesday that a soldier was killed in terrorists' firing from the Afghan side of the border.

An army statement said terrorists fired from across the border on Pakistani Border post in a recently cleared area in Khyber tribal agency.

The soldier was performing duty at Mustil pass, an important passage from Afghanistan into Rajgal valley, the statement from the army's media wing Inter-Services Public Relations said.

It is the second death of Pakistani soldier in terrorists' firing from the Afghan side of the border in less than two weeks.

Lieutenant Arsalan Alam, the officer commanding a border post, was killed on Sept. 23 while performing his duties.

Pakistan forces have established several posts in Rajgal valley to stop the cross-border movement of the militants, particularly the Islamic State militants, who reportedly operate from parts of eastern Nangarhar province in Afghanistan.

Pakistani ground forces, backed by air power, launched a major operation in Rajgal in July this year after some militants revealed during investigations that they have contacts with the IS militants in the Afghan side of the border and use the rugged mountainous region in Rajgal for crossing the border.

The operation in Rajgal Valley, located at a height of nearly 4,200 meters above sea level and which had eight passes the militants would use to enter Pakistan for their activities, was concluded late in August, according to the army.
