NEW YORK, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar traded mixed against other major currencies on Tuesday, as investors awaited comments from Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen that may reveal more clues on the timing of the next rate hike.

Yellen is scheduled to deliver the opening remarks at the Community Banking in the 21st Century Conference in St. Louis on Wednesday.

The Federal Reserve has raised interest rates twice this year. Last month policymakers pointed to one more rate hike later this year and three for the next year after the conclusion of a two-day policy meeting.

Market expectations for a Fed rate hike in December stood at 82.9 percent, according to the CME Group's FedWatch tool Tuesday.

There is no major economic data due Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, edged up 0.04 percent at 93.600 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro rose to 1.1748 dollars from 1.1744 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound dipped to 1.3244 dollars from 1.3285 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar lost to 0.7833 dollar from 0.7835 dollar.

The U.S. dollar bought 112.92 Japanese yen, higher than 112.65 yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.9740 Swiss franc from 0.9746 Swiss franc, and it moved down to 1.2492 Canadian dollars from 1.2500 Canadian dollars. Enditem
