KATHMANDU, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- Three major political parties in Nepal announced on Tuesday to merge and launch a new communist party immediately after the two crucial elections due to be held later this year.

Following months of inter-party negotiations, two communist parties Communist Party of Nepal United Marxists Leninists (CPN-UML) and CPN Maoist Centre (CPN MC) agreed to unite and establish the new communist party, leaders said here at a press conference.

Newly-established Naya Shakti Nepal Party (NSNP) also agreed to merge and join the new communist party.

The three parties had reached a six-point deal to merge and form the new communist party, cross-party leaders told media.

The announcement of Nepalese communist parties to form the new communist party has come at a time when the country is gearing up to hold provincial and parliamentary elections on Nov. 26 and Dec. 7.

The three parties have formed a unification coordination committee to make preparations for the unification and they have also agreed to form an inter-party panel to draft the statute of unified party.

The three parties also announced the formation of electoral alliance in view of the two elections.
