Nikkei closes at more than 2-year high as solid U.S. data buoys market mood

TOKYO, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- The benchmark Nikkei stock index closed at a more than two-year high as Wall Street's overnight advance following robust U.S. manufacturing data bolstered investor sentiment here.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 213.29 points, or 1.05 percent, from Monday to close the day at 20,614.07.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 10.84 points, or 0.65 percent, to finish at 1,684.46.

Real estate, pharmaceutical, and electric power and gas-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play, and rising issues outpaced falling ones by 1,172 to 759 on the First Section.

The turnover on the second trading day of the week totaled 2,282.1 billion yen (20.19 billion U.S. dollars).
