LONDON, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- A busy southeast London commuter hub reopened Monday after police declared the item found at the platform was not suspicious.
The East Croydon station was evacuated earlier Monday evening as police responded to a security alert claiming a suspicious package was found at one of the platforms.
British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said special response units were on scene from about 7:00 p.m. while trains were not able to pass through the station.
At about 8:00 p.m., police declared the item was not suspicious and the station would reopen shortly.
The security alert was affecting Southern Rail, Thameslink and Gatwick Express services.
