MOSCOW, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolences to his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump on Monday over a bloody mass shooting in Las Vegas, the United States.

"The crime, which claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, is shocking in its cruelty," said Putin in the message, according to a Kremlin statement.

It said Putin expressed sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, and he wished the injured a speedy recovery.

At least 58 people were killed and an estimated 515 people were transported to hospitals in a mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas, Nevada, police said on Monday.

The death toll made the mass shooting outside of the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip the deadliest in U.S. history.
