Banks from Catalonia lead losses in Spain's stock market index

MADRID, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Banks from Spain's northeastern region of Catalonia led losses on Monday in Spain's stock market index Ibex-35 after an illegal referendum held in the region on Sunday.

Spain's third largest bank, Caixabank, and Spain's fourth largest bank Banc Sabadell, led losses in early trading in Spain's stock market index Ibex-35 with Caixabank losing 4.3 percent and Banc Sabadell going down by 5.4 percent.

Other banks went also down, with Spain's largest bank Banco Santander losing 2.3 percent, Spain's fourth largest bank BBVA also losing 2.33 percent and Spain's fifth largest bank Bankia losing 1.96 percent.

Spain's stock market index Ibex-35 fell by 1.20 percent to 10,230 points.
