2 killed in knife attack in southern France; attacker shot dead

PARIS, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- Two passers-by were stabbed to death on Sunday at a central Marseille railway station by a knifeman, who was shot dead by security forces, French media reported.

The Saint Charles train station was evacuated and a large police operation was underway.

French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said on his tweeter account he would "immediately" go to the attack site.
