YANGON, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- China missed out the final stage of the AFC U-16 Championship on Friday after a 1-0 defeat to South Korea in the third round of the qualification.
Teams were divided into 10 groups in the qualification. The winner of each group and the best five second-placed finishers will qualify for the final stage of AFC U-16 Championship to be held in Malaysia. And the hosts Malaysia qualify automatically.
China tied South Korea on 6 points, while sitting second due to inferior goal difference after the two previous games. China only needed a draw to qualify.
But in this match South Korea were awarded three penalties and only converted one, but it was enough for them to secure the top place in the group while China failed to finish among the best five second-placed finishers, and it's their second consecutive elimination in the qualification. Enditem
