MADRID, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Madrid on Friday implemented anti-pollution measures due to high levels of nitrogen dioxide in the air and predictions of continued warm and dry weather.

The first measure went into effect at 6 a.m. on Friday (0400 GMT), limiting the maximum speed on access roads into the capital and on the M30 and M40 ring roads, while local authorities are asking people to use public transport.

It is expected the level of nitrogen oxide would drop over the weekend, but with no wind or rain forecast, the coming week could see further restrictions.

The first to come would be parking bans for non-local residents within the M30 ring road, and then cars would be allowed to use the road every other day depending on the numbers on their license plates.

Madrid approved last week a series of measures aimed at reducing air pollution by 25 percent by 2020, with one of the measures seeing only residents allowed to drive in the city center as of 2018. Enditem
