MOSCOW, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Defense Ministry on Thursday denied media reports claiming that Russian airstrikes killed more than 150 civilians in the Syrian province of Idlib last week.

"To avoid civilian casualties, Russian warplanes do not bomb residential areas in populated places," the ministry's spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said in a statement.

All Russian airstrikes in Idlib in the past week targeted military hardware, ammunition depots, and Nursra Front militants, according to Konashenkov.

The targets were identified by drones and confirmed through other channels, he said.
