KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Two teenagers who linked to the religious school fire in Malaysia that killed 23 people were charged with murder here on Thursday.

The teenagers, both aged 16, were charged with murder. No pleas were recorded. The proceedings were held closed doors as the accused were juveniles.

On Sept. 14, a fire broke out in a religious school in Kuala Lumpur, killing 21 students and two teachers.

Malaysian police later arrested seven suspects, aged between 12 and 18, with the fire department confirming that the fire was an act of arson.

The five others were charged with drugs related charges on Thursday.

The fire shocked Malaysia, triggering calls to regulate and strengthen fire safety measures at religions schools in the country.
