VALLETTA, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Valletta 2018 Foundation Wednesday launched its cultural program for 2018 -- a collection of 140 projects and 400 events taking place throughout the European Capital of Culture year.

The cultural program consists of projects from different strands including visual arts, music, film, dance, performance, education or community projects.

The program will involve around 1,000 local and international artists, curators, artist collectives, performers, workshop leaders, writers, designers, choirs and filmmakers.

Based on a 10-million-euro direct investment, the 2018 program features a number of key infrastructural projects at its core, such as Malta's new museum of art, the Valletta Design Cluster.

The capital of culture opening ceremony will take place on Jan. 20, 2018, with a series of spectacular events in and around Valletta.

It is estimated that over 1 million people will attend Valletta 2018 events.

The Valletta 2018 Foundation is responsible for the European Capital of Culture program in Malta.
