JERUSALEM, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Two Israeli soldiers were killed and four others wounded when their self-propelled gun vehicle flipped over during training in the Israeli-held Golan Heights early on Wednesday morning.

A military notice said the accident occurred overnight during a training exercise of the army's battalion and company commander course.

The driver of the TAT-type Reconnaissance Battalion vehicle took an unexplained turn and the vehicle fell down a 6-to-8- meter deep canal, according to the Hebrew-language Ynet website.

The army identified the casualties as Lieutenant Avshalom Armoni, 22, from the West Bank settlement of Beit Horon, and Sergent Avinoam David Cohen, 22, from Jerusalem. The army notified their families, according to the statement.

Land forces commander Major General Kobi Barak appointed a team of experts to investigate the circumstances of the accident, the army said. The military police also opened an investigation into the incident.

The deadly incident comes amidst a string of training accidents, prompting the army to halt all training exercise until Sunday in order to "refresh procedures" and clarify safety regulation to the soldiers.

On September 13, two soldiers sustained light injuries as their Merkava tank flipped over during a training of the northern battalion. Last November, a tank commander was killed and three other soldiers were injured as their tank flipped over in the Golan Heights.
