JERUSALEM, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Israeli forces on Wednesday took a preparatory step ahead of the demolition of the West Bank home of a Palestinian gunman who killed three Israelis a day earlier.

A military spokesperson said in a statement that engineers mapped the family home of Nemer Mahmoud Ahmed Jamal, who carried out the deadly shooting attack in the Har Adar settlement on Tuesday.

The mapping was a first step before the demolition of his home in Beit Surik, a village northwest of Jerusalem, the spokesperson added.

Jamal, 37, opened fire near a gate used by Palestinian workers to enter the settlement, killing two security guards and a Border Police officer while wounding another Border Policeman before troops shot him dead.

Israel responded with several measures, including the closure of the Beit Surik area, cancelling work permits of members of Jamal's extended family and destroying a mourning tent for Jamal's death.

Israel demolishes the homes of Palestinian attackers, claiming the measure is used to deter more attacks, but Palestinians and human rights groups say it constitutes a collective punishment.
