SINGAPORE, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's total population rose 0.1 percent to 5.61 million in the year ended June 30, 2017, according to a report released by the Department of Statistics on Wednesday.

The Singapore Population 2017 report says among the total population of this year, 3.44 million were citizens, 0.53 million were permanent residents, and 1.65 million were non-residents.

According to the Straits Times, the slowing population growth since 2003 was caused by the weakness in the construction and the marine and offshore engineering sectors, which reduced the population of non-residents.
