KABUL, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 13 Islamic State (IS) militants, including one of their local commanders, were killed following an Afghan forces airstrike in the eastern province of Nangarhar, the Afghan military said Wednesday.

The incident took place Tuesday evening when security forces bombed IS militants' hideouts in Mohmand Dara area of volatile Achin district, leaving 13 IS militants dead, the Afghan Defense Ministry said on its Twitter.

A notorious IS local commander, Qari Safiullah, was among the killed.

No immediate comment from militants had been made on the incident.

Four militants loyal to the Taliban were killed and another wounded in a series of Afghan forces air raids in the same district earlier this week.
