JERUSALEM, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Israel imposed Tuesday a closure on the area of Beit Surik, a West Bank village in the Jerusalem area, hours after its resident carried out a deadly shooting attack in a settlement.

Nimer Mahmoud Ahmad Jamal, a 37-year-old resident of Beit Surik, pulled a gun and killed two Israeli security guards and a Border Police officer. He seriously injured the settlement's security coordinator before other Border Police officers shot him dead.

In the wake of the attack, the military imposed a total closure on the Beit Surik area, according to a military notice.

Troops raided Jamal's home, searching for information on possible collaborators.

One of the guards killed in the attack was identified as Youssef Ottman, an Arab-Palestinian citizen of Israel and resident of Abu Ghosh, a nearby Arab Israeli town.

The slain Border Police officer was identified as Solomon Gavriyah, 20, from the southern town of Be'er Yaakov. He was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant.

Police said the attacker had a work permit, making him one of the few Palestinians with such a document to commit an attack in recent years.

Internal Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Israel will reconsider the current process of issuing work permits in the wake of the attack.

The Shin Bet also said in a statement that Jamal did not have a known record of involvement in terrorist activities.

The incident was the latest in a wave of violence in Israel and the West Bank.
