Afghan air force strikes Taliban hideout, killing 8

KABUL, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least eight Taliban militants were killed after Afghan air force struck a militants' hideout in the country's eastern province of Nangarhar on Monday, the Afghan Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The targeted hideout, lying in Nazyan district, southeast of provincial capital Jalalabad city, was destroyed following the raid, the ministry said on Twitter.

Taliban militants have been using the targeted den for planning and conducting terrorist attacks against security forces in the mountainous region.

The Taliban militant group has yet to make comments.

Afghan army together with police and national intelligence agency have launched more than 6,000 military and cordon operations over the past six months, killing scores of militants and destroying nearly 500 militants' strongholds and bunkers, Gen. Dawlat Waziri, defense ministry spokesman, told reporters on Sunday.
