KABUL, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Forty-six militants were killed and 18 others wounded as Afghan security forces conducted military and cordon operations across the country over the past 24 hours, said Defense Ministry on Monday.

"Afghan National Defense and Security Forces have launched military operations in several provinces. As a result 46 militants were killed 18 injured and four others detained," it said in a statement.

According to the statement, the security forces also destroyed militants' 18 hideouts and bunkers.

Afghan army together with police and national intelligence agency have launched more than 6,000 military and cordon operations over the past six months, killing scores of militants and destroying nearly 500 militants' strongholds and bunkers, Gen. Dawlat Waziri, defense ministry spokesman, told reporters on Sunday.
