NEW DELHI, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A major fire broke out at a three-storey commercial building in India's financial capital Mumbai on Saturday, police said.
The fire started on the second floor of the building at Ashok Nagar in suburban Kandivali and soon engulfed all the shops on that floor, a police official said.
"However, there have been no reports of any casualty in the incident as the fire brigade rushed to the spot and evacuated five people from the building using hydraulic cranes," he said.
Eight fire tenders have been pressed into service to contain the flames, the official said, adding that disaster management officials are also on the spot to look for anyone trapped there.
A probe has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the fire, he said. "We will also see if the building had the mandatory fire safety equipment," the official said.
The incident came just a day after another fire engulfed a five-storey residential building in Bhiwandi near Mumbai. However, there were no casualties in the incident.
Last week, a fire gutted a garment godown in Mumbai's Dharavi, India's largest slum.
