Indonesia to speed up free trade talks

JAKARTA, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian government will accelerate negotiation on free trade agreements in an effort to boost shipment of products overseas, an official disclosed here on Friday.

Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said that a total of 16 trade negotiations are expected to be concluded as soon as possible which will help strengthen competitiveness of the country's exported products.

Indonesian Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita said that the negotiations targeted to be completed next year.

The government has attempted to raise exports and expand market to help spur economic growth.

Indonesia is the world's biggest exporter of crude palm oil, thermal coal, and the world's third largest exporters of cocoa and rubber, as well as home to the world's second-biggest copper mine.
