UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- There is no country on the planet that can walk away from the challenge and reality of climate change, said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday.
Trudeau shared with the United Nations General Assembly how climate change has impacted local communities in Canada.
He said indigenous people in the north of Canada are finding sea ice conditions more dangerous and unpredictable for travelling and hunting in the winter while Inuit elders around Buffet island are finding it difficult to forecast the weather like they used to.
Talking about international cooperation on dealing with climate change, including the Paris Agreement, Trudeau said Canada's commitment is "unwavering."
"Canada will continue to fight for the global plan that has realistic chance of countering it," said Trudeau.
He added that all countries around the world have the responsibilities to future generations.
"We have a chance to build in Canada and around the world economies that are clean, that are growing, that are forward-looking. We will not let that opportunity pass us by," said Trudeau.
The General Assembly of the United Nations kicked off its annual general debate on Tuesday, with heads of state and government representatives gathering at the UN headquarters to present their views about pressing world issues. Enditem
