ZAGREB, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The head coach of Croatia's most prominent football club has been brutally attacked on Wednesday evening in the capital Zagreb.

Dinamo Zagreb coach Mario Cvitanovic was coming home after a game when two unidentified men attacked him with baseball clubs in front of his building.

"Football club Dinamo is shocked by this act. We strongly condemn the physical attack on the coach Cvitanovic that could easily end up with tragic consequences. Unfortunately, this is just a continuation of everything that has happened lately. It is quite obvious that the violence towards people from our club is completely legalized," the club announced.

"We did not notice that any of the relevant factors and institutions reacted after the attempted murder of Zdravko Mamic, which obviously motivated the perpetrators of this cowardly attack on Mr. Cvitanovic," said the club. The police didn't comment on the case.

Citanovic is the second person from Dinamo attacked in the last 30 days.

On August 22, Zdravko Mamic, former vice-president of the Croatian Football Federation and Dinamo's executive president, was shot in the leg in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mamic is on trial along with three other men on suspicion of graft that allegedly cost the club and the state about 17.2 million euros.
