MOSCOW, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday in a statement released on Facebook.
The remarks were made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who took part in a meeting between the six world powers -- Russia, Britain, China, the United States, France and Germany -- and Iran held Wednesday on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, according to the statement.
Lavrov confirmed that Russia will continue to support the JCPOA.
During the meeting, the parties considered the latest report by Yukiya Amano, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The report confirmed that Iran fully meets its obligations under the Iran nuclear deal, said the Russian foreign ministry statement.
The JCPOA, known commonly as the Iran deal or Iran nuclear deal, is an international agreement reached in 2015. According to the JCPOA, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran will be removed if the country is proved to abide by the deal over the next few years.
