KUALA LUMPUR, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- Seven Filipino men suspected to be Abu Sayyaf militants have been arrested in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian police said in a statement Thursday.

The seven suspects, aged between 22 to 38, were nabbed on Sept. 14 in an anti-terror operation following the arrests of several Abu Sayyaf militants before the Malaysian National Day and the closing ceremony of the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, said Malaysian police chief Mohamad Fuzi Harun in the statement.

The suspects worked as security guards at several private firms in Selangor, a state on the west coast of Malaysia, and Kuala Lumpur, it said.

Police said a 22-year-old suspect among the seven had fought the Philippines security forces and was involved in kidnapping in the southern Philippines.
