VIENTIANE, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems (CDAIS) global consultation is taking place in Lao capital Vientiane to seek measures to advance agricultural development in Asia and Central America.

Representatives from the participating countries -Angola, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Honduras, Laos and Rwanda - are meeting from Monday to Friday to share their experiences in agricultural research and development.

Participants are also highlighting the achievements of research and development projects and plan to use suitable measures and methods in the CDAIS.

The consultation will provide a better understanding of appropriate ways to implement projects and ensure they are effective.

Activities selected to bolster capacity will strengthen, and plans to be implemented will be made clearer through the consultation, Lao state-run daily Vientiane Times reported on Thursday.

The CDAIS global consultation is hosted by the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute of Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Laos.

Participants include representatives from research institutions, agricultural promotion and universities of government organizations as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector and development partners.

The Capacity Development for Agricultural Innovation Systems is jointly implemented by the FAO and Agrinatura-EEIG, the operational unit of Agrinatura, with the main goal of making agricultural innovation systems more efficient in meeting the demands of farmers, agri-business and consumers.
