ANKARA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Turkey has deployed fully equipped commando units as part of military reinforcements along its southern border with Syria, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Wednesday, citing a military source.

The military vehicles loading fully equipped commandos travelled to the Syrian border on Wednesday, near Reyhanli district of southern Hatay province, according to the anonymous source.

The source said the new deployment was part of reinforcements for troops already stationed there.

The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) has deployed several batches of heavy weapons, including tanks and howitzers, to Syrian border since last month, amid strained tension between Turkish government and Syria-based Kurdish militants.

Meanwhile, the military drill that started on Monday on Turkey's southeastern border with Iraq Kurdish region is still ongoing, according to the General Staff.
