DHAKA, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- A massive fire has razed a multi-storey textile factory in a central Bangladesh district, killing six people and injuring several others.
Fire official Ziaur Rahman told Xinhua that the blaze started in the four-storey Ideal Textile factory at about 9:57 a.m. local time in Munshiganj district, some 27 km southeast of capital Dhaka.
It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
Rahman said the fire originated from the factory's chemical godown on the first floor of the building which subsequently spread to other parts soon.
A total of five fire firefighting units brought the flames under control at around 1:00 p.m. local time, he said, adding the firemen arrived in a prompt and timely manner.
Several workers were reportedly injured in the fire.
Law enforcers have reportedly detained four officials of the factory including a general manager.
In Bangladesh, poorly constructed buildings have long been the source of successive accidents, resulting in the death of workers.
