BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Li Yuanchao said Wednesday he hoped that Japan could work with China to improve bilateral ties.

Li made the remarks when he met with a delegation of Japan Democratic Party politicians led by Takahiro Yokomichi, former speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan.

"China hopes Japan can work with China to inject more impetus into the development of bilateral ties," Li said.

Yokomichi said he had deeply realized the importance of peace when visiting the Nanjing Massacre Museum during the trip.

He said Japan should bear in mind history, shoulder responsibility and actively improve the bilateral relationship for the future.
