NEW DELHI, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Heavy rains hit India's financial capital Mumbai and affected rail and air traffic in the city, officials said Wednesday.

The rains started Tuesday afternoon and continued throughout night, triggering water logging and traffic jams.

Meteorological department officials have predicted more rains and high tides in the next 24 hours.

In the anticipation of rains, local government has ordered closure of schools and colleges in the city as a precautionary measure.

In wake of the heavy rains, five Western Railways trains have been cancelled, officials said.

Last month Mumbai city experienced the heaviest rainfall in the past 15 years, triggering flood like situation and water logging.
