RAMALLAH, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki ruled out on Tuesday any new peace initiative that might be launched by the U.S. President Donald Trump.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Trump are scheduled to meet in New York on the sidelines of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be their third meeting after they met in Washington in early May and then in Bethlehem in the West bank when Trump made his first visit to the region.
"The American administration is not ready to present such a plan," Maliki, who is accompanying President Abbas, told a Ramallah-based radio on Tuesday.
He added that the U.S. administration will continue talking over to crystallize an American position that would reactivate the peace process.
The Palestinian minister stressed that Abbas would demand Trump to give a clear position on the two-state solution on the 1967 borders, Israeli settlement in addition to the daily Israeli violations in the Palestinian territories, as well as the U.S. bias in favor of Israel.
Al-Maliki expected Trump to reiterate his keen interest in reaching a quick agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.
He also predicted that Trump would call on the Palestinian side not to take unilateral steps that might impede American efforts.
The last peace negotiation between Israel and the Palestinians ended in March 2014 after nine months of U.S.-sponsored talks without making any progress to resolve the decades-old conflict.
