1st LD: 7.1 magnitude earthquake shakes Mexico

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- A 7.1-magnitude earthquake hit the central state of Morelos in Mexico on Tuesday, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN).

The first SSN report noted that the tremor occurred at 1:14 p.m. local time 12 kilometers southeast of the municipality of Axochiapan.

In Mexico City, residents immediately evacuated from buildings due to the intensity of the earthquake.

An earlier report of the U.S. Geological Survey said that an earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale jolted 5 km ENE of Raboso, Mexico at 18:14:39 GMT on Tuesday.

The epicenter, with a depth of 51.01 km, was initially determined to be at 18.5838 degrees north latitude and 98.3993 degrees west longitude. Enditem
