KABUL, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Over 300 Afghan families, who had fled violence for safer areas, were waiting for aid in northern Afghanistan's restive Faryab province, a private news agency, Pajhwok Afghan News, reported Tuesday.
They had fled their homes after heavy clashes between security forces and Taliban insurgents over the weekend, which killed a 12-year-old boy, injured five people and damaged 50 houses in an airstrikes targeting Taliban.
"Some 300 of the total 600 families living in Moqani area had been displaced to Maimana city, capital of province, by the conflict and inside Pashtunkot district as well," said the report, adding the displaced families faced acute shortage of food and warm clothes.
Mohammad Rahim, provincial refugee and repatriation director, was quoted in the report as saying that the department would provide aids to the displaced families after their exact number was made clear through a survey.
More than 1 million Afghans have been displaced due to insurgency and conflicts in the Central Asian country within the past 16 years.
