HONG KONG, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Three masked robbers smashed a window of a jewellery store and grabbed nine pieces of jewellery estimated to be worth 24 million HK dollars (about 3.07 million U.S. dollars) in Hong Kong Tuesday, local media reported.

The incident happened at around 10 a.m. local time on Canton Road of Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, a popular shopping area among tourists.

Two robbers arrived at the store carrying a suitcase and stole the nine pieces of jewellery on display after smashing the window by sledgehammers. Then a third man came on a motorbike to facilitate their getaway, the Standard, an English daily in Hong Kong reported.

The three robbers were captured on video by a pedestrian at the time and were seen riding along Canton Road and turning towards another road. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.8 HK dollars)
