SINGAPORE, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will invest in its people, capabilities and networks to build a more secure and resilient digital community, said Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean on Tuesday.

Teo said at the opening ceremony of the second Singapore International Cyber Week that by investing in the three areas, Singapore can raise the overall quality of cybersecurity, advance the vision of being a Smart Nation, and contribute to regional and international efforts to build a safer and more secure cyberspace.

The deputy prime minister said Singapore will be investing in its people and growing the pool of cybersecurity professionals. He disclosed that the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore will develop a new academy to train cybersecurity professionals and will partner leading industry players to train those in government and critical information infrastructure sectors.

He said Singapore will strengthen the national cybersecurity capabilities, in which strengthening the resilience of the country's physical infrastructure is a priority.

According to Teo, the Singaporean government is thus developing a new Cybersecurity Bill, to provide regulatory powers to strengthen the resilience of critical information infrastructure and essential services. The bill will enable the government to take pre-emptive action to protect against cyber threats, and improve Singapore's capability to respond to incidents.

Teo said Singapore will work to strengthen the international networks. He called on all countries to work together at different levels so as to address cyber-threats effectively.

The Singapore International Cyber Week 2017, themed as "Building A Secure and Resilient Digital Future Through Partnership," provides an integrated platform for over 6,000 international and regional policy makers, thought leaders, industry experts and visitors to forge partnership, engage in critical dialogues and knowledge-sharing for a secure and resilient cyberspace.
