NEW DELHI, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Indian federal government has decided to form an inter-ministerial committee to monitor implementation of safety measures in schools across the country, officials said Tuesday.

The announcement came in the wake of last week's brutal killing of a seven-year-old student in Gurgaon of Haryana and rape of a girl by a school peon in New Delhi.

The decision to form the inter-ministerial committee was taken Monday during a meeting between Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar and Women and Child Development minister Maneka Gandhi, a senior official said.

The minister for Women and Child Development told the media that the committee will be constituted of six secretaries, who will be responsible of monitoring the implementation and progress of safety guidelines in schools.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon's Ryan International School, which opened on Monday, 10 days after the murder of the boy, has been shut down again for a week due to security reasons.

The boy's father has expressed concerns that reopening of school will tamper the evidence. He has appealed to the Supreme Court that the school should remain closed until the Central Bureau of Investigation, which has taken over the case from the state police, completes its probe.

On Monday, a 15-year-old girl in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh was killed after falling off from the third floor of her school building. The girl's family alleged she had been thrown off by someone and has asked for a detailed investigation into her death.
