SHENZHEN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Shared bikes have surpassed buses to become the second most popular means of public transport in south China's Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, transportation authorities said Tuesday.

The number of shared bike trips has reached 4.53 million every day, just trailing the 4.74 million subway trips taken each day, said Lou Heru, deputy director of Shenzhen municipal transport commission.

The daily number of passenger trips by bus was 4.5 million, said Lou.

Shenzhen was among the first cities to use shared bikes. Last month, two Mobike-branded shared bikes were donated to the Shenzhen Museum, which were displayed at the "opening and reform history" section.

To regulate their operations, the city in late August requested shared bike companies suspend the addition of new bikes and disclose collateral deposit information to the public.
