Chinese shares close lower Tuesday

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares closed lower Tuesday, with glass and ceramics industries falling the most.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.18 percent to close at 3,356.84. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.62 percent lower at 11,083.9.

Combined turnover on the two bourses expanded to 523.8 billion yuan (about 80 billion U.S. dollars) from 516.2 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Glass makers shed the most, with shares of Hubei Sanxia New Building Materials tumbling 8.9 percent.

Ceramics producers also saw heavy losses. Guangdong Dowstone Technology dropped 3.29 percent.

Real estate developers bucked the downward trend. Shares of Hua Yuan Property rose by the daily limit of 10 percent, while leading developer China Vanke went up 2.6 percent.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style enterprises, fell 0.77 percent to close at 1,880.3.
