JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- At least four Taliban militants were killed and another was wounded when Afghan air force struck their positions in eastern province of Nangarhar, authorities said Tuesday.

Afghan air force bombed militants' hideouts in Bati Kot and Achin districts on Monday, leaving four Taliban insurgents dead and one other wounded, the army Corps 201 Selab said in a statement.

The Afghan army also launched a cleanup operation early Tuesday morning, in some vicinities of the neighboring mountainous Kunar province to track militants there, the statement noted.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants as the Taliban militants and Islamic State (IS) fighters have been attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions across the country.
