NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were confirmed killed and more than a dozen others were injured after two buses collided on Monday in New York.

A private tour bus and a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus Q20 collided in Flushing in the New York City borough of Queens at the intersection of Northern Boulevard and Main Street around 6:15 a.m. local time.

A pedestrian, a passenger on the city bus and the driver of the private tour bus were confirmed dead, according to authorities.

The tour bus driver and the MTA bus passenger died at Queens' hospitals, while the pedestrian was pinned under one of the buses and was killed at the scene.

Officials said the city bus was making a right-hand turn when it was struck by the private bus, and then the private bus crashed into a restaurant, igniting a small fire inside.

The fire department said more than a dozen were injured after the collision.

Some of them were in critical condition and fighting for their life right now, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference.

The collision has caused heavy traffic delays.
