KABUL, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Up to 77 insurgents have been killed and 73 other wounded during the Afghan security forces operations across the country over the past 24 hours, the Afghan defense ministry said in a statement released here on Monday.
"Afghan defense and security forces conducted 16 clean up operations and 14 special operations in 14 provinces in the past 24 hours, as a result, 77 armed militants have been killed, 73 injured and six others arrested," the statement said.
During the operations, some weapons and ammunitions have also been discovered and 29 motorbikes used by militants were destroyed by security forces, the statement added.
Taliban militants who have intensified their activities in the restive provinces have yet to make comment.
