Fiji starts population census

SUVA, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- Fiji started on Monday a nationwide census of population and people are advised to give correct information to help the country plan for the future.

The Fiji Bureau of Statistics has divided the South Pacific island state into three divisions and there are over 1,900 enumeration areas.

Each of these areas have around 80 to 120 households. A total of 2,156 enumerators will be visiting these areas from Monday, according to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) reports.

The census will continue until Oct. 8 this year and the enumerators will finish the census process in the first two weeks while the third is for revisiting those that may not have been home or need to give in more information.

The questions of the census ranges from population size, education, economic activity, fertility, communications, internet and agricultural activity.

The last census in the island state, which was conducted in 2007, recorded a population of 837,271.
