HONG KONG, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Hong Kong Productivity Council is pushing for the creation of a facility in China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) to test driver-less vehicles, according to Radio Television Hong Kong on Monday.
The council has gathered over 20 firms, including major local telecommunication companies and technology developers, to form the "Hong Kong Connected Vehicles Cluster" to facilitate the initiative.
Lawrence Poon from the Productivity Council, who is coordinating the initiative, said some Hong Kong companies were already playing a part in the field by producing components.
The aim of the project is to bring together all these companies along with major telecommunication firms and provide a complete platform for automakers.
He said that they have already located some space in areas like New Territories to conduct such tests. Preliminary tests of driver-less cars could start as soon as next year.
