MOSTAR, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series saw the world's top professional divers compete in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) city of Mostar on Saturday afternoon.

The best divers in the world jumped from the 27 meters high diving platform attached to the Old Bridge, into the very cold Neretva River that measures at 10 degrees Celsius, accelerating up to 90 kilometers per hour.

In the men's competition, 6-time World Series champion Gary Hunt of the United States finally managed to triumph in Mostar. American Steven LoBue finished second, while the third place went to Russian debutant Nikita Fedotov, who participated at the event for the first time.

In the women's contest, the victory was taken by American Cesille Carlton, who was second at the competition last year in Mostar. The second place is taken by Australian Helena Merten and the third place by German Anna Bader.

Some 17,000 tourists and residents of BiH were watching the jumps below the Old Bridge. The World Series, established in 2009, is an annual international series of cliff diving events. The competition consists of dives of different degrees of difficulty and points are given by five high-diving judges.
