NEW DELHI, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- A massive fire on Saturday damaged India's popular RK Studio in western state of Maharashtra, police said.

The fire broke out in the afternoon in Chembur area of Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra. No loss of life was reported in the incident.

Following the incident administration rushed six fire tenders and three water tankers to the spot to douse the flames and prevent it from spreading.

RK Studio houses the logistics of the RK Films production company, named after India's popular deceased Bollywood actor Raj Kapoor. It was established in 1948.

Kapoor dynasty has made number of films over the decades in India.

"The fire broke out in the ground floor of the building was confined to electric section of the studio," a fire brigade official told media. "No loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the incident."

Electric section of the studio was having wiring, electric installation and decoration equipment placed there.

"Sad. A major fire broke out at RK Studios. We have lost the iconic stage. Thankfully no casualties nor injuries," well-known Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor wrote on twitter.

The cause of the fire was being ascertained. However, prima facie it appears electric short circuit has triggered the blaze, reports said.

"The actual cause of fire will be ascertained only after a proper inquiry," the official said.

The fire damaged sets of dance reality TV show "Super Dancer Season 2", reports said.

Eyewitnesses said thick dark smoke enveloped the entire area as flames leapt through the basement of the sprawling studio.

Chances of fire in Indian buildings are often high as owners usually ignore safety standards vis-a-vis fire and store fuel and combustible materials in a haphazard manner.
